AUTOS: Dodge Adds Dart GT Package
The compact sedan comes with a tuned suspension, standard accessories and styling tweaks, to debut next week at the Detroit Auto Show.
Dodge is expanding the Dart range with a sporty new model called the GT, which dons a host of accessories and tuned suspension, set to debut next week at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. The new model, which draws links to the original Dart GT launched 50 years ago, is based on the already well-equipped Dart Limited, equipped with the existing TigerShark MultiAir2 2.4-liter four-cylinder, 18-inch aluminum wheels, sports suspension with frequency sensing damping shocks and integrated exhaust tips.
The Dart GT interior features some sporty additions, such as perforated Nappa leather seats, touch-screen Uconnect interface and a reconfigurable digital instrument cluster. (Photo: Dodge) Peak engine output remains at 184 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque, and customers have the choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.
The car gets plenty of luxury amenities including perforated and heated, 10-way adjustable Nappa leather seats; Chrysler?s 8.4-inch touch-screen Uconnect interface; a reconfigurable digital instrument cluster; a backup camera and an optional Alpine sound system with 10 speakers.
On the outside, the Dart GT gets black elements in the front bumper, headlights and grille, body-color door handles and GT badging.
The 2013 Dodge Dart GT goes on sale shortly after its auto-show debut, with pricing set at $20,995 (plus destination), which is quite a deal even though the Dart doesn?t go any faster than before.
Dodge has confirmed that it?s investigating a high-performance Dart R/T model, and there are also rumors that Dodge?s performance brand SRT will eventually launch its own version of the Dart to serve as the spiritual successor to the Dodge Neon SRT4 cult classic from the early 2000s.
The 2013 Detroit Auto Show starts off with press days and new-vehicle introductions on Jan. 14-15 and is open to the public Jan. 19-27 at the Cobo Center.
