Is Justin Bieber's 'Boyfriend' Video An Homage To 'NYSNC?

Addressing similarities to 'NYSNC 's 'Girlfriend' clip, Bieber tells MTV News he's 'definitely' been influenced by Justin Timberlake.

<P>It's easy to compare <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a>'s <a href="/news/articles/1684446/justin-bieber-boyfriend-video.jhtml">"Boyfriend" video,</a> which premiered Thursday on MTV, to 'NSYNC's "Girlfriend" clip from a decade earlier.</P><P>The concepts are quite similar: Both videos depict laid-back parking-lot parties that go from sun-drenched afternoons to moonlit evenings, filled with fancy cars, pretty girls and hip-hop-influenced dance breaks.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Justin Bieber Wanted 'Boyfriend' Video To Be 'Mature'" id="vid:765691" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Back in 2001, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/n_sync/artist.jhtml">'NSYNC</a> enlisted director Marc Klasfeld for their game-changing <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/nsync/14441/girlfriend.jhtml#artist=500956">"Girlfriend" clip</a> that helped launch them ahead in their career from tweeny idols to full-grown men. Now, as Bieber hopes to make the same leap into <a href="/news/articles/1682090/justin-bieber-justin-timberlake-maturity.jhtml">manhood</a>, he said that despite having tons of respect for Justin Timberlake, he didn't realize there were similarities between his Director X-directed video and the boy band's clip.</P><P>After the <a href="/news/articles/1684454/justin-bieber-boyfriend-mature-video.jhtml">"MTV First" premiere of "Boyfriend,"</a> MTV News' Sway Calloway asked Bieber whether he had seen the "Girlfriend" video: "I haven't seen it," he said. But, he admitted he's "definitely" been influenced by Timberlake. "He was young, and he did it, and he was really amazing and had such amazing music," Bieber shared. "I can't say that I would be upset when someone compares me to him."</P><P>But, this Justin notes that while there might be some similarities to that other Justin, he's hoping to put his own stamp on the music industry, adding, "I just feel like my music is going a completely different route, but ... hats go off to him."</P><P>As for the more grown-up version of Bieber fans are getting to glimpse in the clip, he shared that much like his Beliebers he's growing up and not afraid to express that. "I think it's super cool," he said. "I wanted to do something a little bit more mature."</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="'Boyfriend' Shows Off Justin Bieber's 'New Fresh Sound'" id="vid:765693" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P><i>Share your thoughts on Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" video in the comments below!</i></p>

Mumford & Sons Finish Sigh No More Follow-Up ... Probably

'We're done recording it, but if we listen back ... and discover it's sh--, we'll just start again,' Mumford's Ben Lovett says of new album.

It's been a long time in the making — like, well over a year — but Mumford & Sons have finally finished the follow-up to their breakout Sigh No More album ... sort of.

In a new interview with the NME, Mumford's Ben Lovett says the new album is finished; although in keeping with the band's policy, there's a pretty good chance they might still go back and re-record the entire thing.

"We're done recording it," Lovett said. "But if we listen back while we're mixing and discover it's sh--, we'll just start again. We're not going to put it out until it's good enough."

Mumford have been working on the new album for the entirety of 2011 — in between barn-storming railway tours, of course — though they've always maintained that they've felt no pressure to rush the recording. Quite the opposite, in fact, as frontman Marcus Mumford told MTV News late last year.

"We're still recording. We don't really like to put any boundaries on it; we'll keep going until it's right," he said. "It's definitely a different experience from the first one, as it should be, I think. But it's been challenging in all the right ways. It's going well.

"I think we just want the songs to be good, and to sound right, and to feel like we've expressed everything as straightforwardly and honestly as we can," he continued. "And we're working towards that."

They've also used their live shows as a way of road-testing the new material — including a haunting ballad called "Ghosts" — which has been crucial in shaping (and editing) the still-untitled follow-up album.

"For us, that's a really helpful way of writing, and performing the song ideas that we have live is a crucial part, for us, of the songwriting process," Mumford explained. "[The songs] always change when we play them live; the dynamics change a lot. When you play it to a new room, you're playing it to new ears, and you're listening to the song through their ears. So it's a really great way to feel the song out."

What are you expecting from the new Mumford album? Let us know in the comments.

Bing Strips Down Results Page To Make Google Look Like ?Search Overload?

Mr. Clean Bing DoneWhile Google keeps cramming its search results pages full of tools and social content, today Bing confirmed with me the full roll out a redesigned search results page that completely clears the left sidebar, and replaces the tabbed header with a cleaner set of links. Bing Facebook integration is also more subtle now, instead of plastering names and faces beneath Liked results. This more relaxing, dare I say zen, design gives Google a more claustrophobic and exhausting feel by comparison.?Microsoft seems to have realized that if it can't match Google's algorithmic prowess, it could win with sleek design that doesn't bombard you with a thousand options.
